Former Illinois State mens basketball star Maurice Trotter signed a contract to play with the Kansas City Knights of the American Basketball Association Tuesday.
Trotter played for the Redbirds from 1994-96, after transferring from Highland Community College. During his two seasons, he led the Birds in scoring both years with 14.9 and 11.4 points per game during his senior and junior campaigns, respectively.
The Lawrence, Kan., native was one of the most feared 3-point shooters in the Missouri Valley Conference, converting 121-of-334 career attempts (36.2%) with the Birds. Trotter led the Redbirds to two National Invitation Tournaments, including the quarterfinals in 1996 after upsetting Wisconsin 77-62 in Madison, Wis.
The ABA, which is starting its second season, features eight teams and a 60-game schedule. Trotter will take part in the Knights training camp, which begins on December 10, and will compete for a spot on the Knights final roster.
