Relay Team Leads Birds In Final Day Of Competition

Lindsay Crowder and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay team took seventh place as the Illinois State swimming and diving team finished eighth at the 2001 National Independent Conference Championships. Crowder was joined by teammates Brittany Erickson, Nicole DuCharme and Dana Rosinski on the relay team. The team finished with a time of 3:37.06 which is less than four seconds off their season-best time of 3:33.84 which they set at last weekends Missouri Valley Conference meet. Crowder also took ninth place in the 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 52.63. That time is .12 seconds off her season-best swim of 52.51. Tiffany Dudley also contributed to the Redbirds efforts with a ninth place finish in the 200 yard Backstroke with a season-best time of 2:06.06, which beats her old season-best time of 2:07.70 by almost two seconds. Heather Norris also helped the Redbirds with a 15th place finish in the 200 yard Butterfly with a time of 2:12.48. Cincinnati won the tournament with a final score of 696. Host Oakland came in second with a 622. Northern Arizona came in third with a 564, while Western Kentucky came in fourth with a 488. Florida Atlantic clinched fifth (452) and Houston took sixth (421). There was a battle for seventh but at the end of the three-day competition Louisiana- Lafayette had a nine point edge over Illinois State with a 181. Illinois State ended the tournament with 172 points and eighth place.
