Michelle Huston of the nationally-ranked Illinois State gymnastics team finished first on the bars with a score of 9.875 to take the title at the individual championships of the 21st Annual State Farm Cat Classic in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday.
Huston posted the highest score on the event, .025 points higher than second-place finisher Kim Little of No. 14 Brigham Young, the team that took home first-place team honors from Fridays competition. Also a high finisher on the unevens for ISU was
Dana Lutherwho placed seventh with a score of 9.750.
On the vault, Illinois States
Kristy Kreinbrink placed eighth with a score of 9.575 while on the beam, Luther was the Birds highest performer with a third-place mark of 9.750. Other strong Redbird performances on the beam came from Lisa Klein and
Jamie Reineck who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Klein led ISU on the floor exercise with a 9.725 and an eighth-place finish while Kreinbrink slipped into the tenth spot with a score of 9.600.
Suffering from fatigue and illness, the Illinois State gymnasts placed fourth in the team competition in the two-day event, posting a 192.125 overall score, its lowest of the year. Host Missouri placed second with a team score of 192.425 while No. 22 Bowling Green finished third (192.250).
The Redbirds return to action on Sunday, Feb. 18 when UIC travels to Normal, Ill., for a 6 p.m. dual meet in Horton Field House.
