At first singles, Ricky Heath battled against Marquettes Peter Mojzis and won with a tight score of 7-6, 7-6. Jason Smit also had a close, but victorious match at the No. 2 spot against Bart Covdeneije, 7-6, 7-5. At No.3 singlesYew Ming Si flew past Marquettes Raj Kjill, 6-4, 6-1. Brent Steven, Albert Piasecki, and Thommas de Liefde also cruised to victories at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.
Heath and Si paired up at first doubles to defeat Mojzis and Kjill 8-5. The duos of Smit and Steven at second doubles and Piasecki and de Liefde at third were also victorious for the Redbirds with scores of 8-6 and 8-5, respectively.
Illinois State will continue its spring season Saturday February 17 at 1 p.m. at home against Northern Illinois.
