Senior Michelle Huston matched her school record on floor exercise as the Illinois State gymnastics team captured a 193.925-193.750 victory over Southeast Missouri State during Thursdays Senior Night competition at the Horton Fieldhouse.
Seniors Dana Luther and Marisa Niekamp also went out in dramatic fashion with energetic performances and high scores. Luther garnered a 9.600 on vault, a 9.800 on bars, and a 9.825 on beam. Niekamp, a consistent floor specialist for the Birds, nailed her final collegiate floor routine at home to receive a 9.825.
Sophomore Heather Mohler set a new personal best on the vault with a 9.900. Mohler faltered on bars to receive a 9.150, but came back strong on beam to receive a 9.800. Mohler finished up the night on floor exercise and tied her personal best of 9.775 on that event. Mohler finished 3rd in the all-around competition.
Huston finished 4th in the all-around portion of the competition.
The Redbirds still remain high in the national ranks at No.21. The team will continue to vie for a spot at the NCAA Regional Championships as they take their talents on the road to compete at Illinois-Chicago on Friday, March 9th.
