Redbirds Head To California For Stevinson Ranch Invite

The Illinois State mens golf team will participate in the third annual Stevinson Ranch Invitational in Stevinson, Calif., on Monday and Tuesday, March 26-27. The two-day tournament is hosted by the University of Colorado and will take place at the Stevinson Ranch Golf Club. The championship layout is a 6,646-yard, par-72 configuration, and the greens feature bent grass. The 14-team field will include Air Force, California, Colorado, Drake, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Pacific, Southwest Missouri State and Tulsa. Four schools, Kansas (#33/#23), Tulsa (#32/#40), California (#42/#39) and Colorado (#46/#50) are currently ranked in both the Golfweek and MasterCard Collegiate Golf rankings. Play gets underway Monday with 36 holes of action, with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Tuesdays final 18 holes of competition will round out the tournament. Illinois State heads into the invitational after coming off a week of spring break practice in Ireland, where the team played some of the toughest courses in the world. Our goal is to beat all of the teams that we should beat as well as the higher ranked teams, head coach Harland Kilborn said. The guys who have been there before really like the course and they like the idea of competing against some top ranked teams. We hope to catapult off this tournament to give us a key start on the rest of the season.
