In preperation for a double header, the Illinois State womens tennis team defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay Saturday at home on McCormick Courts.
No. 1 singles Liina Suuravik battled against Green Bays Lianna Dorn to a 6-2, 6-0 victory. At the No. 2 spot Zana Friganovic crushed Holly Wendorf, 6-0, 6-1. Elizabeth Bingier captured an easy win, 6-1 , 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Shelby Lipson won a long but victorious match against Kelly Gruszinski, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4. while Brigette Zarazee and Alana Hoffman flew past Emily Barnes and Erin Parks, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
All doubles matches were won by the team with first doubles Mikalayeva and Suurvarik taking down Dorn and Watson, 8-2. Friganovic and Hoffman cruised to victory over Wendorf and Gruszinski, 8-2 at the No. 2 spot while the duo of Lipson and Zarazee thrashed Barnes and Parks, 8-0 at third doubles.
Overall head coach Chris Hoover is pleased with the win.
We kept Mikalayeva in the doubles line up , but she hasnt been feeling well so we added Hoffman to the singles line up, coach Hoover said. Just making sure she has enough rest.
The Redbirds continue their season Sunday at home when the team takes on Indiana State at 9 a.m. and Bradley University at 4 p.m. at McCormick Courts.
