Freshman Brian Anderson paved the way for the Illinois State mens golf team finish in a tie for eighth place with Drake University at the Diet Pepsi/Shocker Classic hosted by Wichita State.
Anderson launched a career best game with a score of 214 (74, 69, 71), putting him in the top twenty with a 14th-place finish. Anderson also walked away with a career best round of 69 from the previous day of play.
The Redbird team advanced one spot from yesterday and landed an overall team score of 876 (299, 285, 292), moving them up a notch to tie with Drake for an eighth out of 17 teams finish. Host school Wichita State took top honors at the tournament with a final score of 839.
Senior Dan Cerny fired a score of 221 (76, 72, 73), digging himself out of 47th place from yesterday and rounding out today with a final 34th place finish.
Junior Nic Baker slipped one spot from yesterday landing in a 36th place finish with a total score of 222 (73, 73, 76).
Rounding out competition for the Birds were Adam Goldie with a score of 225 (76, 77, 72) in a tie for 56th place and B.J. Brown took 74th place with a score of 229 (80, 71, 78).
The Redbird team will compete next at the Branson Creek Invitational in Branson, Mo., April 16-17.
