The Illinois State mens golf team is tied for ninth place with Southwest Texas State after the first day of competition at the Diet Pepsi/Shocker Classic hosted by Wichita State University.
The Redbird team shot a 584 (299, 285) for the day at the Crestview Country Club South. The Wichita State Shockers lead the tournament with a score of 554.
Freshman Brian Anderson leads the team after firing a career best round of 69 along with a 74 for a total score of 143, putting him in a tie for 20th place.
Junior Nic Baker followed up Anderson with an overall score of 146 (73, 73), which landed him in a tie for 35th place.
Fellow teammates senior Dan Cerny contributed a 148 (76, 72) in a tie for 47th place and B.J. Brown shot a 151 (80, 71), slipping him into a 66th place tie. Adam Goldie rounded out the tournament in 74th place with a 153 (76, 77).
The final 18 holes of the Shocker Classic will resume Tuesday.
