Illinois State University will play host to the Missouri Valley Conference Mens Golf Championship April 30 and May 1 at the Tournament Players Club at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
We are very excited to be hosting the championship, especially at the TPC at Deere Run, Illinois State head coach Harland Kilborn said. Anytime a team gets a chance to play a PGA tournament caliber course its an excitiing opportunity. I also think its exciting for the Missouri Valley Conference to have its championship played at such a nice facility.
Nine teams will be competing for the MVC championship and an automatic trip to NCAA Regionals. A 7,183 yard par 71 course, the TPC at Deere Run serves as the annual host for the PGAs John Deere Classic and was designed through a combined effort of PGA Tour Design Services, Inc. and Illinois State alum D.A. Weibring.
D.A. is a designer of the facility and it just so happens to be located in the Quad Cities, which makes it a great location for a neutral site, Kilborn said.
Last season Wichita State claimed the MVC crown followed by Southwest Missouri State and Drake. The 2000 MVC Championship was played at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill.
The first two rounds are slated to tee off on Monday, April 30 at 8 a.m. and will feature 36 holes on day one. Play will conclude on Tuesday, May 1 with 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m.
