After a long weekend in Bloomington, Ind., the Illinois State womens golf team will look to find a little more success closer to home. The Redbirds begin play Friday in the Illini Spring Classic at Urbanas Stone Creek Golf Club.
There will be a 16 team field at the Illini Spring Classic, but unlike the last Big Ten school the Birds visited, the field will contain only one Big Ten team, the host Fighting Illini. The field does contain some familiar faces which includes Notre Dame, Ohio, Ferris State, Eastern Illinois, Missouri- Kansas City and Missouri Valley Conference representatives Bradley and Southwest Missouri State.
This is a good opportunity for the team to get back into it, this course is very similar to our home course, The Den, says ISU head coach
Ray Kralis.
Following the Illini Spring Classic, the Birds will head to Omaha, Neb. for the Missouri Valley Confernce championships.
Kralis feels strongly about his teams ability to compete with an entire team effort.
If we can can get four good scores, we will be right in the hunt, says Kralis.
