The Illinois State mens golf team is tied for sixth-place with host school Southwest Missouri State after the first day of competition at the Branson Creek Invitational in Branson, Mo.
The Redbird team fired a 579 (289, 290), putting them in sixth-place of the 10-team field with one day of play remaining. Arkansas Little Rock leads the tournament with a score of 557.
Junior Nic Baker leads the team, sitting among the top 20 with a 13th place finish after 36 holes with a score of 142 (67, 75). Bakers low round of 67 is a new career best for him.
Freshman Brian Anderson, following in Bakers footsteps, is tied for 18th place with an overall score of 143 (74, 69).
Greg Morgan stepped up with a 145 (72, 73), putting him in a tie for 24th place while Adam Goldie contributed a 149 (76, 73), landing him in a 39th place tie.
Senior Dan Cerny finished day one with an overall score of 153 (76, 77), slipping into a tie for 50th place.
Final tournament play will resume Easter Sunday.
