Mens Tennis Wraps Up Conference Season

After a successful weekend with conference wins against Evansville and Southern Illinois, the Illinois State mens tennis team faces Southwest Missouri State and Wichita State Sunday at McCormick Courts. Southwest Missouri State is down a little bit this year, head coach Greg Kennett said. But they have some stronger players in the middle at No. 3, 4,and 5 so Brent (Steven), Jason (Smit), and Albert (Piasecki) will need to step up. Kennett knows Wichita State will be a challenge but feels the team is prepared. Wichita is a very good team with an excellent new coach, Kennett said. If their top players perform well this could be a really tough match for us. Kennett hopes his team will be ready to play Sunday morning. I definitely feel better about our mental game, Kennett said. Especially Yew Ming Si and Brent Steven, as well as Albert Piasecki. Play begins for the 13-8 Redbirds Sunday at 10 a.m. against Southwest Missouri and again at 3 p.m. when they take on Wichita State on the McCormick Courts.
