Lindsay Crowder and Andrea Lovelle proved once again why they were captains and leaders of the Illinois State University swimming and diving team when they received the most valuable swimming (Crowder) and diving (Lovelle) awards as elected by their teammates for the 2000-2001 season.
Lovelle also took home a team scholastic award, an award she has received each of the past four years with a 3.98 grade point average. Deborah Birrer and Jenny Wilson were co-winners along with Lovelle, each having a 4.00 G.P.A. Birrer and Wilson are three-time recipients of the scholastic award. Birrer also won the spirit award for the enthusiasm and support she showed for her teammates.
Newcomer-of-the-year awards went to Heather Norris and DeDe Woytowych. Norris was the leading point scorer during the regular dual-meet season. Woytowychs versatility enabled head coach
Steve Paska to enter her in several different swimming events during the season.
Nicole DuCharme received the award for most improved, consistently bettering her times throughout the season.
Senior Tiffany Dudley received the Rebecca Wade Award, an award presented in honor of the former ISU swimmer who died of cancer in 1999. The Wade award is presented to a team member who exemplifies perseverance and dedication to both the sport of swimming and to the team.
Dudley, Crowder and Lovelle were also presented with captains plaques to acknowledge their hard work and leadership throughout the season. Crowder along with Birrer and Brittany Erickson were selected as captains for the 2001-2002 season.
