Baseball Inks Three Recruits

Scott Bialobreski, Howie Frank and Jeff Reyes have all signed national letters of intent to continue their education and baseball careers at Illinois State University. We are extremely excited about the addition of these three young men to our program, ISU head coach Jeff Stewart said. Each one of these guys brings something to the table thats going to help us in the future. Bialobreski is a 6-1, 190-pound third baseman/outfielder, who hails from Kewanee, Ill., and Kewanee Weathersfield High School. Scott Bialobreski is a prolific high school hitter and somebody that we feel can play a corner position, either on the infield or outfield, Stewart said. Scotts a good athlete, hes very intelligent and hes got great leadership qualities ... with his work ethic he might be able to break into our lineup very early in his college career. Bialobreski, who led Kewanee Weathersfield to two straight regional titles and a sectional runner-up title in 1999, was a first team all-state selection by the Illinois Baseball Coaches Association and an honorable mention all-state selection by the Chicago Tribune as a junior. For his career, Bialobreski has tallied a .471 batting average with 134 runs batted in, 28 doubles, three triples and 139 runs scored. The hard-hitting prospect has also tallied 34 homers during his career and needs only seven more to tie the career IHSA record. A three sport star during his prep career, Bialobreski earned accolades in basketball and football in addition to his exploits on the baseball diamond. Bialobreski was a three-time all conference selection in football and basketball at Kewanee Weathersfield. After a stellar career on the gridiron he ranks No. 5 on the schools scoring list with 210 career points, No. 5 with 33 career touchdowns and No. 9 with 1,647 career rushing yards. In basketball, he led his team to its first two regional titles since 1979 and ranks No. 5 on the schools career scoring list with 1,219 points. Frank is a 6-1, 198-pound right-handed pitcher, who originally hails from Minier, Ill. He played two years of junior college baseball at Illinois Central College. Howie Frank is an athlete who has really matured physically, hes probably put on 30 pounds from when we first saw him a couple of years ago, Stewart said. He has the ability to compete for a starting job in our rotation almost immediately. Hes a great kid, a strong leader and hes very fundamentally sound. During his stint at ICC Frank has excelled both on the field and in the classroom. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is well on his way to earning academic all-American honors with a 4-1 record and a 2.52 earned run average in 39 and one-third innings of work. Frank currently ranks No. 3 with nine career wins at ICC and No. 5 with 74 career strikeouts. more Reyes is a 6-2, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, who hails from Darien, Ill., and Hinsdale South High School. He is the younger brother of the Redbirds starting catcher Steve Reyes. Jeff Reyes is a talented right-handed pitcher who might be able to help out a little with his bat as well, Stewart said. He has not been overused during his prep career and we believe his best days are ahead of him on the mound. Hes a power pitcher and hes got good command ... hes got a good chance of being a fastball-slider type of guy. Reyes has compiled impressive numbers both on the mound and at bat over his last two seasons at Hinsdale South. Through three starts during his senior campaign, Reyes has posted a 3-0 record with a 1.26 earned run average, he has fanned 17 batters and walked only four in 16 and two-thirds innings. In addition to his exploits on the mound, Reyes ranks No. 2 on his prep squad with a .404 batting average.
