Sara Hayworth became the first Benton Central High School swimmer to receive a scholarship from a Division I school when she signed a National Letter of Intent with Illinois State University.
Hayworth, a native of Fowler, Ind., who began swimming at age 4, currently holds eight Benton Central records, specializing in the butterfly and backstroke events. She has qualified four straight years for the Indiana State High School Activities Association swimming championships, placing sixth in the 100-yard butterfly event in 2001.
Hayworth was the 2001 Hoosier Conference Champion in the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She has also been named Benton Centrals most valuable athlete in swimming for four consecutive years.

Steve Paska many things sold him on Hayworth.
Sara has amazing versatility which will definitely enhance our team, he said. She also has an tremendous work ethic that will make her a faster swimmer in the years to come. She will have an immediate impact on this team her freshman season.
Hayworth plans to major in sports medicine while at ISU. She is one of two swimmers Paska has signed for the 2001-2002 season.
