After closing out its conference season with wins against Wichita State and Southwest Missouri, the Illinois State mens tennis team will compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa April 27 - 29.
Head coach Greg Kennett said last weekends victories sets the team up for another chance with Drake.
Being third in the MVC standings going into the conference championships sets us up for a showdown with Drake, Kennett said.
The Redbirds dropped their match to Drake 6-1 in season play capturing all three doubles victories.
We have been starting to get tough minds in the last three or four weeks, Kennett said. We have really been starting to peak. Its all a matter of surviving injuries.
After claiming the regular season championship, No. 26 Indiana State is the favorite to win the tournament in the coaches poll. Drake and Illinois State are picked to finish second and third, followed by Northern Iowa, Wichita State, and Southwest Missouri. Evansville, Creighton, Southern Illinois and Bradley were picked to finish 7,8,9 and 10, respectively.
Play begins Friday morning in Cedar Falls,Iowa.
