Chelsea Sanders signed a national letter of intent with Illinois State University to continue both her swimming and educational careers.
Sanders, a senior at Mt. Vernon High School in Indiana, began swimming only three years ago. Despite her late entry into the sport, Sanders, who swims backstroke and sprint freestyle, was a state-qualifier, as well as a sectional champion in each of her prep seasons.
Sanders was also a three-time all-conference champion, Big-8 Champion and team captain. She received the Indiana House of Representatives Recognition for swimming her senior year. She currently holds the school record in the 50-yard freestyle.
Illinois State head coach
Steve Paska is impressed with Sanders talent.
One thing that really excited me about Sanders, he said, is that she has only been swimming for three years. The amount of swimming talent she has after three years is amazing.
Sanders plans to major in art and minor in marketing while at Illinois State University. She is one of two swimmers who will be joining the Redbirds for the 2001-2002 season.
