Redbird Mens Golf Team Gears Up For Shocker Classic

The Illinois State mens golf team will compete in the 14th annual Diet Pepsi/Shocker Classic in Wichita, Kan., Monday and Tuesday, April 9-10. The two-day tournament will be held at the Crestview Country Club South which features a 71-par and 6,671 yardage course. The 17-team field includes Colorado State, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, Iowa State, Long Beach State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Stephen F. Austin, Southwest Missouri State, Texas-San Antonio, Southwest Texas State, U.S. Air Force Academy, UMKC, Washington State and Wichita State. The classic will kick off Monday morning at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start igniting the first 36 holes. Tuesday will round out the tournament with the final round of 18 holes. Were not happy with our seventh place finish at the Arkansas State Indian Classic from this past Monday and Tuesday, head coach Harland Kilborn said. We had an opportunity to be in the top two or three, but our last round was what killed us. We havent been playing consistent golf lately and we need to get back to that. This Wichita State tournament is very important to us. Wed like to send a message to Wichita State letting them know that we can compete with them. Wed like to beat the Valley schools of course and we can do that by playing more consistent golf. Participating in the competition are juniors Nic Baker, B.J. Brown and Adam Goldie along with senior Dan Cerny and freshman Brian Anderson.
