Meisner Tourney Highlights Spring Volleyball Slate

Becky Weber and Abby Lewis helped lead the Illinois State volleyball team to a first place finish at the 2001 Kelly Meisner Invitational Volleyball Tournament April 7 at Redbird Arena. The Illinois State Alums took second and Western Illinois and Central Michigan tied for third in the six team, round-robin tournament which featured two-game matches each a rally-scored game to 30points. The Kelly Meisner Invitational is played each year in memory of a former Redbird player who battled cancer throughout her collegiate career. Meisner, a Heyworth native, died in 1997. Redbird coach Sharon Dingman was particularly pleased with the play of Erin Jones, Lewis and Weber. I think everyone played really well today, said Dingman. Erin and Abby really stepped up, and Becky has been a great leader for us. Dingmans fall squad will include four players who are missing the spring season while in rehabilitation for injuries. Illinois State's spring schedule also features tournaments at Indiana (April 14) and Saint Louis University (April 21). ISU's fall season begins Aug. 31 with the Barker GMC Tournament in Redbird Arena. The Redbirds also will host the 2001 State Farm-Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Redbird Arena.
