After a disappointing match against Hawaii on Wednesday, the Illinois State mens tennis team crushed Northern Iowa Friday claiming all doubles matches and five singles.
At first singles, junior Ricky Heath battled against Iowas Harry Walsh to a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Jason Smit defeated Whambula Msiska, 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 Yew Ming Si flew past Zane Krog, 6-3, 6-4 while Brent Steven and Albert Piasecki had no problem taking down Rich Ferreira and Rob Webbink, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth and fifth position.
No. 1 doubles Heath and Si faught hard to conquer Walsh and Msiska, 8-5. Steven and Smit battled against Ferriera and Krog to win the match 9-7 at the No. 2 spot while the pair of Thommas de Liefde and Piasecki defeated Sippala and Jon Houphton, 8-6 at third doubles.
The Redbirds face the University of Creighton Saturday in Omaha,NE. Play will begin at 2 pm.
