Redbirds Take Third Place at MVC Championship Tourney

The Illinois State mens golf team brought home third place from the Missouri Valley Conference Mens Golf Championship at the Tournament Players Club at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. Illinois State dropped one spot from yesterday and landed in third with a final team score of 902, finishing behind only tournament winner Wichita State and second place Northern Iowa. Three Redbird golfers finished among the top 20, including team leader freshman Brian Anderson who took home a career best of third place with a score of 222 (74, 72, 76). Senior Dan Cerny finished his last game of the season in sixth place with a final score of 224 (73, 76, 75). Adam Goldie contributed a score of 227 (76, 75, 76), to boost the team score and finished in a tie for 12th place. Junior Nic Baker slipped from ninth place from yesterday to finish in 21st place with a score of 232 (75, 76, 82). B.J. Brown finished the tournament in a tie for 30th place and had a final score of 238 (77, 82, 79). Its disappointing when you put yourself in a position to win the conference tournament and you cant carry it out, head coach Harland Kilborn said. We had our chances, we just couldnt put it all together. This tournament concluded the Redbirds golf season. Team season highlights include first place finishes at the D.A. Weibring Tournament and the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate and now a third place finish at the MVC Championship.
