Friganovic, Lipson Named to Valley Scholar-Athlete Team

After being named all-conference selections last week, Zana Friganovic and Shelby Lipson have added to their list of Missouri Valley Conference honors with recognition on the 2001 Valley Scholar-Athlete Tennis Team. Friganovic, a senior from Tucson, Ariz., carries a 3.94 GPA with a major in political science. Owning a singles record of 25-10 this season, Friganovic was named to the Valley all-conference team and moved into eighth-place on ISUs career singles win list with 75 victories. In doubles, Friganovic has a season mark of 19-11 and is 68-42 for her career, third on the all-time list. While Friganovic was a first-team selection in 1999, Lipson makes her first appearance on the squad. A sophomore chemistry major, Lipson has a cumulative grade point average of 3.61. The El Paso, Texas native compiled a record of 18-5 at No. 5 singles and was named all-conference at No. 3 doubles with teammate Brigette Zarazee. The duo notched a record of 22-2 and has been ranked as high as No. 39 by the ITA. The Redbirds compete in their first-ever NCAA Tournament this Saturday against Wake Forest at Stillwater, Okla.
