Rawlins Continues Swimming Career at Illinois State

Swimmer Angela Rawlins has signed a national letter of intent with Illinois State University. Rawlins, a transfer student from Santa Barbara City College, has three years of eligibility remaining. She swam at University of Pacific for one year, then decided to transfer to Santa Barbara. While at Pacific, Rawlins competed in three Big West Conference final events: the 100-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly. She finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 100-yard butterfly. Rawlins attended Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, Calif., where she was a three-time sectional champion in the 100-yard breaststroke and a two-time champion in the 100-yard butterfly. Redbird head coach Steve Paska believes Rawlins will contribute to the success of the swimming and diving team immediately. Angela is such a versatile swimmer, he said. With her athletic ability, she will have an immediate impact and help the team become more competitive as soon as she gets here. While at Illinois State, Rawlins plans to major in graphic design. She is one of three swimmers who will be joining the Redbirds for the 2001-2002 season.
