Mens Golf Host 10th Annual D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

The Illinois State mens golf team will host the 10th Annual D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at Illinois State University Golf Course this weekend. Coming off a competitive fourth-place showing at the Nebraska Invitational last weekend, the Redbirds are looking to defend their two-year reign as champions of the tournament scheduled for Saturday, September 15 through Sunday, September 16. The tournament will be the first intercollegiate event played in the recently redesigned Illinois State University Golf Course. Although the Birds have played several practice rounds on the course, head coach Harland Kilborn feels that the course offers plenty of competition for his team and for the rest of the field. Kilborn sees this tournament as a good test for his and all the teams in the tournament. Kilborn remains confident of his teams capabilities. We showed at Nebraska we can play with a lot of great teams, said Coach Kilborn, This (D.A. Weibring) tournament will have good solid competition and good players. The 17 teams competing in this tournament are Illinois State, Arkansas State, Bradley, Creighton, DePaul, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Lewis, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Saint Louis, Southeast Missouri State, Southwest Missouri State, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Evansville, Missouri-Kansas City, and Western Illinois. The Illinois State University Golf Course is approximately 6,550 yards with a par of 71. Round one, with a shotgun start at 8:30 am, and Round two are scheduled for Saturday and Round three is scheduled for Sunday.
