Rachford, Redbirds Poised for Panther Classic

On the strength of a promising 10th place finish last week at the Redbird Classic, senior co-captain Jill Rachford will lead the Illinois State womens golf team into battle at the Panther Fall Classic hosted by Northern Iowa on September 16th and 17th. Rachfords 15th place individual finish powered a Redbird seventh-place finish at the Panther Classic in 2000. The Redbirds will head to Cedar Hills, Iowa to compete on the 5,993-yard course at the Beaver Hills Country Club. The teams slated to compete are Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Southwest Missouri State, Creighton, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Loyola, Truman State, Northern Illinois and Missouri-Kansas City. The 36-hole tournament is scheduled to start Sunday at 9 a.m. and conclude on Monday with a probable tee time at 8:45 a.m. Head coach Ray Kralis feels this ISU team is capable of putting forth a solid performance that will fuel its desire to stay competitive all season long. I expect a strong showing at the Panther Classic that builds momentum going into next weeks prestigious Lady Northern Invitational at U of I, said Kralis.
