Heath, Redbirds Not to Leave Empty Handed

The Redbirds wrapped up competition at the Ball State Invitational in impressive fashion on Sunday. Leading the way for the Redbirds was senior, Ricky Heath. After being defeated on Friday by Chris Varga of Ball State, Heath defeated Jason Pressel of Ball State to claim the Section A consolation championship in the singles competition. Heath, who is no stranger to winning, admitted that it took him some time to get back into the swing of things. I got off to a slow start because I hadnt competed in a while, but by my second and third singles matches, I started to find my form, said Heath. However, Heath was not the only Redbird that played well throughout the tournament. In the singles competition, Jason Smit advanced to the Section A quarterfinals, Andy Martin advanced to the Section B quarterfinals, and Mike Rubinelli and Marek Blaskovic advanced to the Section C quarterfinals. In the doubles competition, Ciaran Foley and Heath advanced to the Section A quarterfinals, Smit and Brent Steven advanced to the Section B quarterfinals, Blaskovic and Martin advanced to the semifinals of the Section B consolation, and Rubinelli and Chad Andrews of St. Louis advanced to the Section C quarterfinals. Overall, all seven members of the team advanced to at least a singles or doubles quarterfinal throughout the weekend.
