Redbird Tennis Travels to Western Michigan

After an impressive showing at the Ball State Invitational last weekend, the Redbird mens tennis team is heading north for their second tournament of the fall season. The Redbirds will compete at the Western Michigan Invite this weekend in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The tournament will begin on Saturday, and run until Sunday. Also competing at the Western Michigan Invite will be: DePaul, Northern Illinois and host Western Michigan. Without question, the Redbirds will have their work cut out for them. All three of their opponents are strong teams. Last season, Western Michigan won the Mid-American Conference tournament title with a dramatic 4-3 win over Ball State in the MAC Tournament final. Last weekend, Mike Findling and Dan Grupp won the Flight C doubles title at the Ball State Invitational. Northern Illinois is one of the up and coming programs in the MAC. Last season, the Huskies finished with an overall record of 14-11. DePaul finished last season with a 10-10 overall record and a 1-3 record in the rigorous Conference USA. Coach Greg Kennett is excited about the level of competition at the tournament. The most important aspect of the tournament is the opportunity to get some good matches in against some good competition, said Kennett. Any one of these teams could be ranked among the top 75 teams in the nation.
