linois States Liina Suurvarik, the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, has earned the right to compete in the title match of the 13th Annual Coors Light Lobo Invite after defeating New Mexicos Tjasa Suvak Saturday afternoon.
Suurvarik cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 two set win over Suvak to advance to the final round where she will face New Mexicos Sandy Lukowski for the title on Sunday morning.
Teammate Alesia Mikalayeva will contend for third-place after falling to Lukowski in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, in the semi-finals.
Suurvarik and doubles partner Mikalayeva face Becky Parsons and Laura Nigro of the Air Force Academy in the title match of the main draw doubles bracket. Suurvarik and Mikalayeva took their match against UNMs Ruiz-Fabrega and Heidbrink, 8-2.
In the doubles back draw, Tatyana Ugorigh and Shelby Lipson escaped Air Forces Crail/Camel, 9-8, while Alana Hoffman and Laura Gravino upended Black/Shelby from Air Force, 8-5.
The Lobo Invite concludes tomorrow afternoon at the Lobo Tennis Center.
