Coming off a strong showing against Northern Illinois in Sundays 5-0 season-opener, the Illinois State soccer team hosts Butler Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field.
In last seasons match-up between the Birds and the Bulldogs, Kelly Mahan scored the game-winner in the second overtime as Illinois State edged Butler 3-2.
Mahan was a sparkplug in Sundays game as well, scoring two of the five ISU goals.
They are a very good team, head coach Pete Kowall said. It should be an entertaining game. They have good movement off the ball and have a very disciplined defense.
Kowall anticipates a high-scoring affair as the teams have scored 12 goals combined over the last two meetings, each won by the Redbirds.
The Bulldogs come to town after suffering their first loss of the season Tuesday, 1-0, to Indiana and have an overall mark of 2-1.
They move off the ball well and causes problems for defenses, Kowall added. They played a good game on Tuesday and always play Indiana well.
