No. 28 Illinois State gymnastics team travels to Champaign, Ill., on Saturday to take on in-state rivals, No. 27 Univeristy of Illinois Fighting Illini, in Huff Hall at 7pm.
The Redbirds (1-0) are coming off last weekends season opening win against Southeast Missouri State (191.400 - 188.625), while the Fighting Illini (2-2) are coming off a loss to No. 22 Auburn.
Last year, Illinois State beat Illinois at Horton Field House 196.000 - 192.275. Junior Heather Mohler hopes to repeat the success she had against the Fighting Illini where she took the individual all-around title with a score of 39.300.
Head coach Beth Larson says the team is prepared and excited to compete agianst the in-state rivals.
We spent this week correcting our mistakes and we are looking to build on last weeks win, said Larson. Against Illinois, our main focus will be on consistency and performance.
