Redbird Swimming and Diving Heads to UIC

The Illinois State swimming and diving team will head to Chicago, Ill., on Friday, January 18, to face the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames in a non-conference meet at the Flames Natatorium. The meet starts at 7 p.m. I am anxious to see our team compete after having the last two weeks off, said Illinois State head swimming and diving coach Steve Paska. We have had tremendous practices over the last couple weeks and I know the team is looking forward to the competition. The Redbirds participated in the Rainbow Invitationals in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 4-5. The meets were unscored events, but junior Angela Rawlins turned in impressive performances in the 200 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard freestyle. The Flames picked up their fourth win of the season with a 131-100 victory against Valparaiso on Friday, January 11, in Valparaiso, Ind. UIC has more wins this season than the last two seasons combined. The next meet for the Birds will be the Bill Ritter Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on January 25-26.
