After the first day of competition at the Bill Ritter Invitational, the Illinois State swimming and diving team finds itself in second-place, trailing host Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Junior Angela Rawlins clocked a season-best 2:12.23 in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing second. Diana Cirstea came in with a time of 2:14.35 to take fourth in the same race.
In the freestyle events, Heather Norris finished third in the 500 with a 5:17.20 mark. In the 50-yard sprint, senior Lindsay Crowder clocked a 25.37 en route to a third-place finish while Brittany Erickson came in fifth with a time of 25.54
The Redbird relay teams looked strong all day as the 200 freestyle team of Rawlins, Erickson, Deb Birrer and Crowder took second with a time of 1:41.39. The 400 medley relay team comprised of Sara Hayworth, Rawlins, Cirstea and Nicole DuCharme swam to third with a 4:04.96 finish.
In diving, Terra Whisman was the top Illinois State finisher in the three meter, scoring 360.20 and collecting fifth-place. On the one-meter board, Alison Kouba took seventh for the Birds with a total of 194.50.
The Bill Ritter Invitational concludes tomorrow at Klotsche Center Pool, with session two beginning at 10 a.m. and session three starting a 3:30 p.m.
