Junior Angela Rawlins and the rest of the Illinois State swim team finished competition at the two-day Rainbow Invitationals Saturday with both some great individual and team performances in Honolulu, Hawaii. Both the Friday and Saturday meets were unscored events.
At the Duke Kahanamoku meet on Friday, January 4, Rawlins turned in a fifth place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 31.43. Rawlins also placed eighth in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:01.65. Other solid performance by the Birds included a fifth place finish for Illinois State in the 500 yard freestyle 10 x 50 relay with a time of 4:18.67. Members of the relay team were senior Lindsay Crowder, Rawlins, senior Deborah Birrer and sophomore Dana Rosinski.
At the Aileen Soule Classic on Saturday, January 5, Rawlins turned in another great finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time 2:27.94 for second place. Illinois State also placed second in the 400 yard medley relay (Rawlins, Crowder, senior Diana Cirstea and freshman Sara Hayworth) with a time of 4:06.78 and the 400 yard free relay (Rawlins, Crowder, senior Brittany Erickson and junior Nicole DuCharme) with a time of 3:45.00.
Other good performances by the Birds at the Aileen Soule Classic included a fourth place finish by Cirstea in the 200 yard fly with a time of 2:14.30 and a fourth place finish by Crowder in the 100 yard free with a time of 55.69.
The next meet for Illinois State will be Friday, January 18, at Illinois-Chicago at 7 p.m.
