The Illinois State womens soccer team heads west for two Valley conference games this weekend. The first is set for 5 p.m. Friday, October 11, versus Creighton in Omaha, Neb., and the second for Sunday, October 13, against Drake in Des Moines, Iowa.
Illinois State leads the series with Creighton 5-2, but this Friday will be a battle of the undefeated Valley teams. The Redbirds, 3-0 in conference play, take on the Blue Jays, who are 2-0 in the Valley.
Illinois State is coming off a two-win weekend, over Drury, 1-0 and SMS, 3-2. Creighton is also coming off a two-win weekend as they defeated Evansville, 2-1, for the first time in 12 meetings, as well as a 1-0 victory over Indiana State.
On Sunday, the Redbirds will take on the Drake Bulldogs at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex for a 12 p.m. game.
This is the inaugural season for the womens soccer program at Drake and the Bulldogs are currently 1-1 in Valley action, but play Northern Iowa on Friday, October 11.
Drakes Andrea Schmitz, a freshman, leads the Bulldogs and Valley in goals for the season with seven. Illinois States Annie Wayland is right behind her with six goals on the season and is this weeks Valley Offensive Player of the Week.
This weekends games are the first of a five-game road streak for the Redbirds. Illinois State currently has an overall record of 9-1.
