Redbird Soccer Drops First Conference Game

It was the battle of the undefeated Valley teams, and unfortunately it was the Illinois State womens soccer team that suffered its first conference loss of the season, 1-0, to Creighton, this afternoon at Tranquility Park in Omaha, Neb. The first half was scoreless, but Creightons Lulu Quigley, a junior midfielder, scored the only goal of the game off an assist from Krystle Campa at the 56:32 mark to put Creighton ahead, 1-0, and ultimately record the victory over the Redbirds. Despite the Redbirds second half efforts to score with 15 shots (eight on goal), the Redbirds were unable to reach the back of the net. We created a lot of chances in the second half to score and we didnt put them away, said head coach Pete Kowall. It was an unfortunate loss and we didnt score a goal. You cant win unless you score. Illinois State has an overall record of 9-2, and is 3-1 in the Valley. The Redbirds hope to improve their record as they return to action in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday, October 13, as they take on the Drake Bulldogs.
