Senior Angie Rawlins captured four first-place finishes against Northern Iowa in an all-relay meet at Horton Pool. The Redbirds won the competition 138 to 92.
Rawlins was a member of the 3 x 50 breast, 3 x 50 fly, 3 x 100 IM and 2 x 100 breast relays that all claimed firsts.
Illinois State head coach
Steve Paska was impressed with Rawlins competitiveness during the Birds back-to-back home meets.
Im very impressed with Rawlins, both last night and today, said Paska. She has the will to race and compete. She really enjoys the competitive nature of the sport.
Paska also credited the swimming of captain Stefanie Starck and junior Sara Groves on competing well during the meet. Starck was on four winning relay teams and Groves placed second in two events.
This meet was originally scheduled to have more Valley teams compete, but Northern Iowa was the only team who could attend. Paska feels swimming back-to-back against the same team showed what his team could do.
Some kids were ready to perform and some werent, said Paska. We dont have any more back-to-back meets until we go to Akron, so this was a good test for us. I know this team needs a day to rest, and well be back in the pool Monday ready to go.
Illinois State is back in action October 18, 2002 as they travel to Muncie, Ind. and take on the Ball State Cardinals.
