The Illinois State womens soccer team is headed to Indiana for its final two Valley conference games of the season. The Redbirds will face Evansville for a crucial match-up on Friday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m., and Indiana State on Sunday, October 20, at 1:00 p.m.
The Redbirds, 3-1-1 in the Valley, are playing with fate on Friday where a win over Evansville, 3-1-0 in the Valley, would secure them at least second-place in the regular-season standings. However, if Creighton, currently in first place, loses to Drury, 0-4 in Valley play, on Friday, or Southwest Missouri State, with a 2-2 Valley record, on Sunday, the Redbirds would have a chance at first-place.
Although the Redbirds were disappointed with last weekend, with a 1-0 loss to Creighton, and 0-0 tie at Drake, head coach Pete Kowall said the team has been anticipating this weekends competition all week.
The girls know we have to win, said Kowall. This weekend, we are playing for second place, or even a possible chance at first, depending on Creightons weekend. Without a doubt, this weekend is going to be full of great games.
Illinois State enters the weekend with an overall record of 9-2-1, and a No. 24 ranking in NCAA Division I for shut-out percentage (.500). Redbird goalkeeper, Allison Farrington is ranked No. 14 for a goals against average mark of .650.
Although this weekend will conclude regular season conference action for the Redbirds, they still have three non-conference games remaining. The final home game of the season will take place on Sunday, October 27, as the Redbirds host the Fighting Illini at Adelaide Street Field.
