Marek Blaskovic and Ben Cappuccitti each advanced to the main draw of the ITA Region V championships with two wins a piece in todays action.
Blaskovic received a bye in the first round and then routed Marijon Panzic of Bradley (6-0, 6-1) in his first actual match of the day. Blaskovic will face Carlo Contente of Wichita State tomorrow.
Like his Redbird teammate, Cappuccitti also earned a buy in the first round and then went on to defeat Wessell Kemp of Oral Roberts in the second round of competition. Cappuccitti will compete against Cesar Vargas of Nebraska tomorrow in the third round.
Andy Martin and Ciaran Foley did not fair as well as their fellow Redbirds today as each would falter after byes in the second round.
Martin lost to Vargas of Nebraska (3-6,6-3,6-3) and Foley fell to Radek Guzik of Bradley (2-6,6-3,6-4), each in the second round.
Martin and Foley did post wins in the qualifying consolation draw, with Martin defeating Eduardo Pignatari of Creighton (6-0, 5-7, 10-8) and Foley beating Matt McClure of Drake(6-2, 6-1).
Play will resume tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
