Redbirds Fall in Dual Meet Against Ball State

Despite two second-place finishes by senior Angie Rawlins and impressive showings by the Redbird divers, the Illinois State swimming and diving team lost to Ball State 215 to 85. Angie Rawlins lead the Redbirds by capturing second-place in both the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:07.65 and 2:29.90, respectively, and third-place in the 200 IM posting a time of 2:13.99. The diving team also fared well with Krystal Featherston placing second on the 1-meter board (158.95) and teammate Terra Whisman coming in third with a score of 154.20. On the 3-meter platform, Alison Kouba placed second with a score of 168.00, followed by Featherston in third (161.40) and Whisman fourth (158.25). Illinois State head coach Steve Paska feels the Cardinals were a great team to compete against. This was Ball States first meet of the year, and they were very fresh, said Paska. Its the best Ball State team weve swam against in a long time. The Birds only first-place finish came in the last event of the meet, as Monique Witkowski, Nicole DuCharme, Heather Norris and Katie Finan teamed up in the 400 free relay. Paska feels his team will be ready for their next meet. Well go back to the pool and practice and see if we can redeem ourselves, said Paska. We can turn ourselves around. The Redbirds travel to Champaign, Ill. Friday, October 25, for their next dual meet against the University of Illinois.
