Redbird Soccer Gets Big Win Over Evansville

The Illinois State womens soccer team shut-out University of Evansville in a 2-0 victory, Friday night at Black Beauty Field. This marks the first time the Redbirds have recorded a win over the Purple Aces while playing in Evansville, Ind. The Redbirds took the early lead with a goal by senior Annie Wayland off a penalty kick at the 1:58 mark. This marks Waylands seventh goal of the season and 57th of her career. Sophomore Robyn Brady sealed the Redbird victory with a goal at the 87:14 mark, off an assist from freshman Dana Almdale. This combination was Almdales first collegiate assist and Bradys fifth season and career goal. Head coach Pete Kowall was thrilled with the effort displayed by the Redbirds. This is unbelievable, said Kowall. Winning here (in Evansville) is a historic win for us. I am so proud of the team. They came here to play their hearts out, and they did exactly that. They really pulled together for a great win. Illinois State needed this win to help secure a second place finish in the Valley regular season standings. The Redbirds still face Indiana State on Sunday in Terre Haute, Ind., for a noon game. The team is hoping for a little luck, as a Creighton loss over the weekend could still offer the Redbirds a chance at first place. Creighton is currently in first and remains undefeated in Valley play after their Friday night 3-1 win over Drury. Creighton still faces Southwest Missouri State on Sunday, in Omaha, Neb. The Redbirds improved their overall record to 10-2-1, and their Valley record to 4-1-1.
