Christian Goy, who recently finished 11th against some of the nations best cross country runners at the Notre Dame Invitational, will help lead the Illinois State mens and womens cross country teams into Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the NCAA Asics/Pacesetter Pre-Nationals meet Saturday.
The womens team will compete in the first event of the day at 11 a.m. with the Blue 6K race. Thirty-eight teams will compete in the Blue race, including No. 1 Brigham Young, No. 4 Colorado, No. 5 Georgetown, No. 9 Wisconsin and eight other teams ranked in the top 30 nationally.
On the mens side, the Birds will participate with 34 other schools in the White 8K race at 12:50 p.m. The competition will be fierce with No. 3 Colorado, No. 7 Georgetown, No. 9 Weber State and seven other ranked opponents expected to race.
This is a stacked meet on both sides, said Chris Bailey, who handles all cross country coaching duties for Illinois State. It is the biggest meet in the country next to the Nationals and it is the perfect tune-up for the Valley Championship meet in two weeks.
All races for the Pre-Nationals meet will take place on the LaVern Gibson Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.
