llinois State junior Jim Ferguson became the sixth Redbird to be honored by the league office this season when he was named the Gateway Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, Wednesday.
With the 31-20 win over No. 17 Northern Iowa, the Redbird offense reached a couple of milestones and Ferguson helped lead the way. First, quarterback and GFC Offensive Player of the Week, Michael Souza, tossed a career-best three touchdown passes. And in the same game, running back Quincy Washington legged 104 yards for his fourth-straight 100-yard rushing game, which tied an Illinois State record.
Ferguson, a native of Morton, Ill., led the charge on the Redbird offensive line. The Illinois transfer graded out at 84 percent, while playing 74 snaps without a missed assignment or allowing a sack. Plus he also posted 12 knockdowns.
Ferguson and the No. 25 Redbirds return to action on Saturday, when Illinois State travels to No. 21 Western Kentucky. Kick-off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
