Wayland, Redbird Soccer Record Win Over Drury

Senior Annie Wayland scored her fifth goal of the season to lead the Illinois State womens soccer team to a Valley conference 1-0 win over Drury, on October 4, at Adelaide Street Field. Waylands lone goal of the game was scored in the first half at the 38:15 mark. The Redbirds took 14 shots in the first half while holding the Panthers to only one. Although the second half was scoreless, Illinois State took eight shots as compared the two shots by Drury. The stingy Redbird defense held the Panthers to a mere three shots for the entire game, while senior goalkeeper Allison Farrington recorded another shut-out for the Redbirds, the fifth of the season. Head coach Pete Kowall reflected on todays came in preparation for Sundays home game against Southwest Missouri State. Today we didnt play well in the attacking half, said Kowall. We need to possess the ball better and take more quality shots. Today we played just good enough to win. On Sunday the Redbirds host SMS for a 12 p.m. game, and Kowalls Redbirds are ready for the challenge. SMS is another Valley team that is well-coached and has some special players, added Kowall. We are going to have to be ready to play and focus on taking the quality shots. The Redbirds have an overall record of 8-1, and are 2-0 in Valley conference action.
