Tough Second Day at ITA for Men's Tennis

The doubles team of Ciaran Foley and Djordje Uskokovic was the lone bright spot at the ITA All-America, in Chattanooga Tennessee, for the Illinois State men's tennis team todayas every other Redbird competing would bow out of competition before the third round. Foley and Uskokovic defeated Garry Kilduff and Adam Narvzewski (8-6) and will face Romain Jurd and Mat Cloer of Florida State tomorrow in the second round of doubles competition. Jason Smit and Ben Pettinari lost (8-6) to Alex Elvik and Joachim Lien in their first doubles match of the day. Smit also lost an upset in singles competition earlier in the day to Vincent Ng of Ohio State (5-7,6-3, 6-3). Despite the loss, coach Greg Kennett was upbeat about Smits performance. Smit was in a very tough match today and played three very good, hard sets today, said Kennett. He definitely gave himself and opportunity to win because of his play. Ben Pettinari lost to Allen Simmons (6-2, 7-6) and Djordje Uskokovic lost to Alex Menichini (7-5, 7-6) late last night in singles competition. --##--
