Peacock Leads White Team To Second Series Win, 7-3

Jon Peacock, a 2002 All-Valley Second Team second baseman, went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored Wednesday to help lead the White team to a 7-3 victory over the Gray team and win the three-game Media World Series. Roger Cushman and Art Kimball served as coaches for the White team, while Jim Barnhart called the shots for the Gray squad. When you have a player like Peacock on your ballclub, good things are going to happen, said Cushman. That kid is a horse and an amazing hitter. I really liked the attitude that our team had and I really look forward to watching them in the spring. This series is a great way to end the fall season, added Kimball. There is such a feeling of competition and you can see how much the kids enjoy it. The Gray team was led by Jeremy Accardo, who went 3-for-4 with a double, and Bob McNamara with a triple and an RBI off of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Six runners were left stranded in the game for the Gray team. Our baserunning is what really hurt us today, said Barnhart. We just didnt make some good decisions. This team has talent though and they are going to be good this spring. Brady Salter got the start for the White team throwing three innings and giving up three hits, no earned runs and striking out three. Kyle Bloom also pitched three innings in relief for the White team and gave up only one earned run off two hits and collected four strikeouts. Howie Frank started for the Gray team and had threes across the board with three earned runs off three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in three innings. Steve Reyes also pitched three innings in relief and gave up three earned runs as well on four hits with four strikeouts. The Birds wrap up their Media World Series Thursday with game three at 3 p.m. at Redbird Field. Coaches in tomorrows game will be John Fitzgerald, WJBC play-by-play announcer for Illinois State, and Mike Krizman, sports editor for the Daily Vidette, the student newspaper at ISU.
