Illinois State swimmer Monique Witkowski was awarded the honor of Valley swimmer of the week, Wednesday, for her performances against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday, November 16. She is the fifth Redbird swimmer or diver to receive the award this season.
Witkowski, a freshman biology major, competed in four races against the Panthers and took first in all four. Witkowski won both the 50 and 100 free with a time of 25.01 and 54.57, respectively, and was also a member of the winning 400 free and 200 medley relays.
The efforts of the Tinley Park, Ill. native were also key to helping the Birds beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 184 to 112.
Other Redbirds that have won the honor of swimmer or diver of the week are Angie Rawlins, Julie Cocks, Alison Kouba and Terra Whisman. Illinois State will be in action again December 5-7 when they compete in the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
