Goy Named Prairie Farms/Valley Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Christian Goy was named the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week following his performance at the 2002 Midwest Cross Country Regional on Saturday, November 16 hosted by Illinois State. Goy qualified for the national meet by finishing second in the 10K race with a time of 30:04.10, less than eight seconds behind the winner Andrew Carlson from Minnesota. Goy, a senior from Rheinsburg, Germany, will complete his athletic eligibility at Illinois State following the cross country season. The international business major carries a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average. The NCAA Championships will take place in Terre Haute, Ind., on November 25. The womens 6K race opens the meet at 11 a.m., while the mens 10K race begins at 12:15 p.m. All times are central standard time. To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week recognition, student-atheletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
