Redbird Swimming and Diving to Face Tough Competion

Valley Diver of the Week Terra Whisman, will be looked upon to lead the Illinois State swimming and diving team in a home dual meet against Iowa State Saturday at 5:00 p.m. After placing first on the 1-meter board against Illinois on October 25, Whisman and the rest of the Redbird divers are focused on accomplishing this feat again. The Redbirds and Iowa State have comparable diving scores which makes the Cyclones the toughest opponent the Birds have faced all season. Illinois State diving coach Laura Segerlin feels her divers are ready for the challenge. Its going to be interesting to see how my girls dive in a high pressure situation, said Segerlin. This is something they havent seen yet. On the swimming side, the Redbirds will be facing the same type of challenge as the divers. Redbird head coach Steve Paska expects to see some fast times when the Cyclones come to Horton Pool. Iowa State is a deep squad, said Paska. This meet is going to bring out some of the competitive fire in our team. This is the fifth meet of the season for the Birds after they had a week off after their dual meet in Champaign.
