Goy Named Prairie Farms/Valley Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Christian Goy was named the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Valley Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 2 in Terre Haute, Ind. Goy won the 8K race with a time of 24:48.20, 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up, to lead the Redbird mens team to a first-place finish. Goy, a senior from Rheinsburg, Germany, will complete his athletic eligibility at Illinois State following the cross country season. The international business major carries a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average. TheRedbird mens and womens teams are currently preparing for the 2002 NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country meet on Saturday, November 16. Illinois State will host the event at the University Golf Course. To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week recognition, student-atheletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
